Saturday night, March 7 is the Next Generation Swing Dance Club monthly dance at Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville. Dance starts at 6:00pm with fun DJ Michelle Kinkaid. Please note that Next Generation gets to stay in the main ballroom for the entire evening from 6pm to midnight! There is a WCS lesson with Kurt Senser from 7pm -8pm in the back room. Sunday, March 8 is Kelly’s Swing Dance Party on the second Sunday of the month dance at Ellington Hall in Santa Rosa with Kelly Casanova as the DJ and the instructor. The beginning lesson is from 5-6pm followed by an intermediate lesson from 6:00-6:30pm. Open Dancing from 6:30-10:00pm with DJ Kelly. Friday night, March 13, dinner and live music with James Moseley R&B Quartet at the Sausalito Cruising Club from 8-11 pm. Dinner starts at 6pm. The Sausalito Cruising Club is a unique venue (think funky and/or eclectic). The band plays in the front room where there is a small wood dance floor in addition to tables for listening. The back room has a full bar and a fireplace burning. The outside decks provide great views of the bay and surrounding sites. The music includes Motown, R&B, Jazz, Blues, Funk and Reggae. This is not a west coast swing dance venue so best to bring a dance partner with you. Cover of $15 includes buffet dinner and music. Located at the foot of Napa Street on the water off Bridgeway in Sausalito (off Dunphey Park). Please note that since this is a private club, they have to restrict access to members and guests. Their procedures have tightened. I became a member. If you let me know that you will be there, I will leave your name at the entrance so they know I am expecting you. There are additional dancers that have also become members that also may be willing to sponsor guests when they are there. No guest will be admitted unless their name is on the guest list in advance. All guests still pay their own entrance fee. Dinner runs from approx 6pm-8:30pm.
Saturday, March 14, Bay West Ballroom presents an evening of west coast swing. Elizabeth Mustaro will teach an intermediate West Coast Swing workshop from 8-9 p.m. There will be an all west coast swing dance from 9pm – 10:30pm. This venue has a great sprung wood floor. Sunday, March 15 is Mike Pyle’s Bayside Swing at the Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland which will be held every third Sunday of the month from 7:00-10:30 pm. DJ is Mike Pyle. Intermediate WCS lesson with Rachel Baumgardner from 6-7pm. This is a large wood floor for WCS dancing. Thursday, March 19, the Doc Kraft Band returns to the Sheraton Four Points in San Rafael. This event was held from 6-8pm in December and January. Doc’s music ranges from Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk, Latin, Rock, to Oldies. They play a selection of the best classic standards from the 1930’s to the 1980’s for your listening and dancing pleasure. Admission includes some food and drinks. This is not a strictly west coast swing venue so good to bring a dance partner with you. Location is 1010 Northgate Drive, San Rafael. Saturday night, March 21, is Mt Tam Swing in Larkspur at the Mt Tam Racquet Club! Beginning lesson by Kelly Casanova from 7:30-8:30 pm followed by open dancing to DJ Fred Loebenstein from 8:45 pm to 11:45. This is an introductory lesson to West Coast Swing and a good opportunity for experienced dancers to learn the other side, whether as a leader or a follower. Cash bar and munchies/hor doerves available.
Our goal is to bring in new dancers to the West Coast Swing community with the beginner lesson. So please bring friends that are interested in partner dancing, to learn the dance and then watch more experienced dancers later. Location is 1 Larkspur Plaza Drive in Larkspur near the corner of Magnolia and Doherty. You can park across the street in the Albertson’s center if the front and back parking lots are full. Sunday, March 22, is Lakeside Swing at the Veterans Hall at Lake Merritt in Oakland . Please look for it in its regular spot as the fourth Sunday of the month from 7-10:30 pm going forward! There will be an intermediate WCS dance lesson from 6-7pm. DJ Mike Pyle then presents a great mix of swing, hustle and more for general dancing. This is a great room and floor for WCS dancing! Michelle will teach an intermediate West Coast Swing workshop from 8-9 p.m in the main ballroom. A beginning level West Coast Swing lesson will run simultaneously in the Wee Studio. Saturday night, March 28, is the new regular fourth Saturday WCS dance at Cheryl Burke Dance (formerly the Metronome) in the Drew Lachey room located at 1500 16th Street @DeHaro, San Francisco. Dance will be upstairs on the left. There is a beginner/intermediate lesson from 7:00-8:00 pm with Kim Sifter. Dance from 8 to 11 pm to DJ Tom Paderna. Tom used to be the favorite DJ at the Avenue Ballroom and the regular Sat night dances at the Metronome. Lesson and dance is $14. Dance only will be $8.
